Mattha is a Maharashtrian special drink( beverage)recipe. Generally served in all Marathi wedding and special occasions. It consists of buttermilk, the leftover of curd after removing butter from it.

Nowadays yogurt or curd is thinned, mixing water and then make mattha.

The proportion of water is more than the yogurt/curd.

It is said that Mattha is good for digestion and beat the heat during summer.

Following is the recipe, do try and leave the comments below.

Ingredients

1 cup yogurt/curd

2/3 cups of water

1 green chilli

1 tsp dry roasted cumin powder

¼ inch of ginger

coriander leaves

salt as per taste ( rock salt or pink salt can be used)

1 to 2  tsp of sugar(optional).

I avoid sugar. If you want sweetened one can put honey or jaggery substitute to sugar.

Procedure

  • Make a paste of dry cumin powder, ginger, and green chili.
  • Blend yogurt and water.
  • Mix paste into this blend and add chopped coriander while serving.
  • Recommend to drink fresh.
